Tropical Support Goals

Tropical Software was the first developer to export notes from the Mac to the classic iPod, and is now bringing similar, but enhanced, functionality to the Apple touch devices including iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We are also now hard at work on new products for the iPhone 4 and iPad touch that will take advantage of their new capabilities. One of our goals in product development is to continue upgrading to take advantage of Apple's latest products and capabilities.

Tropical Software prides itself on the useability of its products. We also understand that our ideas about how to enhance productivity might not always be the same as yours. If you need some assistance or have suggestions for improving our products, or new products you think might work well with our existing products, we want to hear from you.

System Requirements

TopXNotes Macintosh System Requirements

TopXNotes version 1.6 requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), however WiFi sync requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or higher.

Apple requires Mac OS X 10.6. Snow Leopard or higher for the Apple Mac App Store version of TopXNotes.

TopXNotes versions prior to 1.5 are completely compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) or higher is required for TopXNotes versions prior to 1.5.

TopXNotes touch System Requirements

TopXNotes touch currently works with any Apple touch device including:

TopXNotes touch requires iOS (formerly termed iPhone OS) 3.1.3. Sync to Mac requires access to a WiFi network and a license to TopXNotes Mac.

Classic iPod System Requirements for TopXNotes

TopXNotes supports what are now called "classic iPods". The classic iPod export feature requires a 3rd generation or newer classic iPod. If an iPod has an LCD and Dock connector, and the Apple Notes Reader is installed (which it is by default on those iPods that have the notes feature), the TopXNotes export feature should work with that iPod.

NOTE: For a time we offered TopXNotes only. Later we introduced TopXNotes iPod as a separate product. Starting with version 1.4, the functionality of TopXNotes iPod has been included in TopXNotes. If you own an older version of TopXNotes or TopXNotes iPod upgrade now to get all the functionality of TopXNotes iPod at no extra charge. If you own a version of TopXNotes iPod, you will continue to enjoy classic iPod compatibility as well as the new features included through version 1.4.2.

Upgrade Policy

Tropical Software has had a very generous policy of free upgrades for customers for some time. Customers owning a copy of TopXnotes 1.0-1.4.1 were able to upgrade to TopXNotes 1.4.2 for free. TopXnotes 1.7 is a free upgrade if you have a copy of 1.5, otherwise it is a very reasonable $19.95 upgrade from any version prior to 1.5

Future Products for Apple touch devices

Tropical Software was the first developer to move notes from the Mac to the iPod, and is now bringing similar functionality to the Apple touch devices including iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Please recognize that while most applications designed for iPhone and iPod touch will work on iPad, Apple has recently published new guidelines and new APIs for the iPad and new iPhone 4. While TopXNotes touch will work on these devices, some of the screens will not look the same as they do on iPhone or iPod touch due to on the larger screen of the iPad. We are hard at work on another notes product for the iPhone 4 and iPad touch that will take advantage of their new capabilities.
